Close all windows running programs by shortcut

This is a How to tutorial to close all your running windows programs with one click by manual method called "Microsoft Taskkill", which means you don't need to install any apps, Also you can Specifies programs to not be closed. this method works in all windows versions.


Close all windows running programs
Requirements:

  • Taskkill service.
  • CMD Command lines.

First you need to specify the path of taskkill service in your windows by searching for "taskkill.exe". mostly you will find it in this path:
 C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe

Second, the command lines; I created some command lines you can copy, edit and used them!

Command line to close all running programs

To close all running programs except explorer.exe "which is your desktop UI":
C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe /F /FI "IMAGENAME ne explorer.exe"

To close specify program that not responding:
C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe /IM notepad.exe
which notepad.exe is the program that not responding

To close all running programs except explorer and google chrome:
C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe /F /FI "IMAGENAME ne explorer.exe" /FI "IMAGENAME ne chrome.exe"

To close all runing programs except explorer and firefox:
C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe /F /FI "IMAGENAME ne explorer.exe" /FI "IMAGENAME ne firefox.exe"

you can edit the above commands as you requirement.

Creating a shortcut to close all running programs

Right click on any empty space on your desktop.
Select the submenu: "New".
Choose "Shortcut".
a new window will show up, put in it the one line code you did before, or copy one of mine and paste it. Click next and name it as you want.
